The Yorkshire Ripper has died in hospital where he refused treatment for Covid-19.
Peter Sutcliffe passed away this morning aged 74. He was responsible for the murders of at least 13 women in the north of England between 1975 and 1980.
Peter Sutcliffe has died while serving a life sentence for the murder of 13 women in Yorkshire and north-west England.
Police chiefs and the families of the Yorkshire Ripper's victims have called his death a "relief". The son of the first known victim of the Yorkshire Ripper says the serial killer's death brings closure.
Downing Street says Boris Johnson's thoughts are with those he killed and their relatives: “The Prime Minister’s thoughts are with those who lost their lives, the survivors and with the families and friends of Sutcliffe’s victims. Peter Sutcliffe was a depraved and evil individual, whose crimes caused unimaginable suffering and appalled this country. Nothing will ever detract from the harm that he caused, but it is right that he died behind bars for his barbaric murders and attempted murders.”
