This week the Ingleton Theatre Group are performing the pantomime ‘Rapunzel’ in Ingleborough Community Centre.
With nearly one hundred members of the community taking part, the production showcases the varied skills of many talented volunteers including actors, painters, carpenters, dressmakers, technicians, choreographers, hair and make-up artists, chaperones, caterers, as well as admin and support staff, to name but a few.
Directed by Liz Cartmell and Shelagh Fagan, and produced by Carl Lis, with assistance from Mel Edgar, this is the Group’s 37th production.
The story is set in the village of Bouffant where Princess Rapunzel, the girl with the long golden hair, is kept captive in a big, tall, tower by the wicked witch Gothel who stole her away at birth. With a motley platoon of soldiers employed to find the Princess for her parents, the melancholy Queen and King, and a love-struck Prince in hot pursuit, as well as a slapstick scene with Hetty, the royal nurse, and Willy, a royal gofer, the scenes are action packed. The antics of a pair of villainous henchmen are balanced by the intervention of six glittering colourful fairies so there is never a quiet moment in the plot.
Peppered with dances by the youth chorus, musical numbers by the principals, an ultra-violet scene, impressive sky lanterns and a community song, the show is a delight for audiences of all ages.
The show is being performed at 7.00pm from Wednesday 26th– Friday, 28th February and at 6.30pm on Saturday, 1st March. A few tickets are still available for sale at Ingleborough Community Centre or by ringing 015242 41701 during office hours.
