Snowed in guest and staff at Tan Hill receive unexpected help from supermarket ALDI
With the wintery weather that has taken over the country this week, some unfortunate guests at Britain's highest pub the The Tan Hill Inn were forced to have an unplanned lock-in in the heights of the Dales.
A group of 23 people, including guests and staff, were trapped at Tan Hill Inn between Saturday evening and Tuesday because of the heavy snow.
Over the weekend, heavy snow fell across Yorkshire causing massive disruption. While snow has continued to fall through the week for much of the county, it has been worse for some of those who live higher up.
Guests and staff were snowed in for four days. With a month's worth of supplies on site, the trapped patrons spent time trying to make the best of things so far, partying and building snowmen to stay occupied.
They did spend time taking photos of some of the activities they were up to, as well as the massive amounts of snow surrounding them.
With rations starting to run out, the team at ALDI's Catterick store commandeered a local farmer's Snow Plough to supply the stranded tourists (and the landlords) with some much-needed supplies, including loo paper, board games, Malbec, and essential sausages, all at 1,700 feet above sea level!
The guests have all now safely returned home and the tean at the Tan Hill have now been relieved by other staff members . The pub remains closed and, given the drifting snow, people are being advised not to try to go to Tan Hill untill the weather improves.
The ultimate lock-in and what a way to start 2025
