Settle cheesemonger helps save local producers

The Courtyard Dairy have been asked to get involved with Jamie Oliver's  #savebritishcheese initiative.  They've teamed up with Neal's Yard Dairy - another cheesemonger, in these unprecedented times to saved local cheese producers from potential ruin and saved jobs too.

As a result Andy Swinscoe and his team have sold lots and lots of Mrs Kirkhams Lancashire CheeseStichelton Dairy and Fen Farm Dairy Cheeses who were struggling with excess cheese as a result of coronavirus.  Andy says its been a real boost: "By buying cheese you've helped us sell 200kg of Kirkhams Lancashire cheese this week. A real positive difference for this guy, his family and farm.  He had only sold 90kg throughout the whole of the UK the week before - he normally makes and sells 1000kg a week, so you're making a real difference to him, and our small family business.

The boost also brought in enough new orders to stop them furloughing two more staff, as our mail order deliveries had started to level out.
Says Andy: "It was very generous of another cheesemonger, Neals Yard Dairy, to invite us to be involved and help support those farm cheesemakers who need it."

They are now offering free local delivery to anyone self-isolating - just give us a ring (01729 823 291) and have also tweaked their procedures in the shop (the way we sample and the frequency we disinfectant multiple contact areas - door handles / card machines / etc.).  Selling raw milk cheese has meant hygiene and reducing cross contamination has always been a top priority for Andy and Kathy. (and why we maintain our 5* hygiene rating) so the staff are well trained!
