High demand for 'Wensleydale Fryer' fish and chips trains seats

Due to popular demand, Wensleydale Railway has announced that additional seating has been made available on their ‘Wensleydale Fryer’ fish & chips trains.

Wensleydale Railway introduced its fish and chips trains in 2023 and it has proved very popular with customers. Travel behind a heritage diesel locomotive and experience a scenic journey through the Yorkshire Dales whilst enjoying locally supplied fish and chips, mushy peas, bread and butter and unlimited tea or coffee served at your table.

The Saturday lunchtime service begins on 12 April, with further trains every month from May to October. The heritage diesel-hauled train will travel from Leeming Bar to Leyburn. You will be seated in an open coach at your own table, set for 1 to 4 people, and if your party is larger, two tables each side of the centre aisle. The railway’s volunteer staff will serve your food and drink as you sit back and relax! A bar service will also be available. On arrival at Leyburn, you will have time for a short comfort break and to stretch your legs before boarding the train for the return journey to Leeming Bar.

Don’t forget to make time for a free guided tour of Leeming Bar’s lovingly restored 1920’s station building. It offers a fascinating window into railway history and what life was like in the early 1900s!

The train will depart Leeming Bar at 1.30pm and the journey lasts around two hours. In addition to fish and chips (cod), there will also be the option of sausage and chips and gluten-free fish and chips.

Unfortunately the railway’s vintage coaches do not currently have access for wheelchair users. If you have mobility constraints please let staff know at the time of booking and they will do their best to allocate a table close to the access door.

The cost is £35 per adult and £15 for children and includes the rail ticket. Places are very limited and booking is essential. For more information and to book:
