Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT) are developing a network of climate change champions in the Dales thanks to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK.
Fifteen Dales Climate Champions are being recruited to deliver low-carbon messages in their own communities and villages across Craven and Richmondshire. They will be trained on climate change, carbon footprints and how to help people develop their own actions. Support will also be available to take these messages forward into the champion’s own communities and how to hold local events.
National Lottery players raise more than £30 million a week for good causes across the UK. The National Lottery Community Fund distributes a share of this to projects to support people and communities to prosper and thrive.
YDMT Project Officer Anthea Hanson said: “Thanks to National Lottery players, their grant means that we can help champion change in local communities. The champions don’t need any prior knowledge or experience, as we will provide free Carbon Literacy training online, where they’ll learn how to plan and deliver activities to engage with your community.”
