Presenter and tree lover, Lindsey Chapman, launched a new appeal this week to plant new native woodlands in the Yorkshire Dales and surrounding areas.
The Together for Trees appeal, run by Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT), launches on Earth Day 22 April - and for one week people will have the chance to double their donation for trees via The Big Give website.
Lindsey, who is known for presenting BBC’s Springwatch and has a passion for trees, said: “We know that planting trees is important for helping to tackle the crisis of biodiversity loss and climate change. That’s especially true here in the Dales where tree cover is less than half the national average.
Donations to the Together for Trees campaign will support YDMT’s work to create smaller scale woodlands which have immense value for wildlife, landscape and people, but are normally underfunded and overlooked.
Schemes include agricultural copses, connective planting and ecological stepping stones as well as riparian strips along river banks that improve water quality and freshwater habitats. YDMT also helps community groups to establish their own woodlands and supports young people to get into the sector through training.
From 22-29 April donations made to the Together for Trees campaign through the Big Give website can be doubled. A donation of £10 will help to plant two trees instead of one. To donate visit bit.ly/donate-trees
