Children of James Herriot launch new book with a signing in Grasssington

The new book is out on 27th October and there's a chance to meet James' children in November.

Rosie and Jim will be coming to the Stripey Badger to sign copies of the new James Herriot book - The Wonderful World of James Herriot -
at 2pm on Saturday 12th November.   This new book, a classic collection of stories, features an introduction from James Herriot’s children, Jim and Rosie.

The perfect gift for fans of All Creatures Great and Small, this is a charming collection of classic stories from James Herriot’s much-loved books with insights into his life and work from his children Rosie and Jim.  James Herriot (1916–1995) was the pen name of James Alfred ‘Alf’ Wight, whose tales of veterinary practice and country life in the Yorkshire Dales have delighted generations.

Many of Herriot’s works – including All Creatures Great and Small, All Things, Bright and Beautiful, All Things Wise and Wonderful, The Lord God Made Them All and Every Living Thing – became international bestsellers and have been adapted for film and television.
Rosie Page and Jim Wight are Herriot’s children. Rosie became a doctor and Jim was a vet.

With astute observations and boundless humour, Herriot captures the spirit of the Yorkshire Dales and of rural communities on the cusp of change, before tractors and machines had taken over and modern
medicines and antibiotics transformed veterinary work. Along the way a beloved cast of characters emerges, from the squabbling brothers Tristan and Siegfried to Herriot’s hapless courtship and eventual family life with Helen Anderson. But it’s the animals which are at the heart of Herriot’s stories. Whether he’s dodging a raging bull on a risky artificial insemination assignment, becoming pen pals with Tricki Woo the spoilt Pekingese or the inevitable trials and tribulations of lambing season, there’s never a dull moment in Herriot’s company.
At times moving and often laugh-out-loud funny, The Wonderful World of James Herriot will delight fans old and new.

Co-owner of the bookshop, Linda Furniss, said “ we are so pleased to have Jim and Rosie along and have the chance to chat to them about this book. Alf Wight was my Dad’s locum vet when he was farmer, and Dad was so proud when his books first came out and read them all. Although Dad is 93, I am hoping he will be able to come along to meet them on the day”

The book is published on 27th October, but can be ordered via the Stripey Badger website for collection and signatures on the day.
