KATE McDONNELL - with Lucy Speller and Andrew Turner - SKIPTON TOWN HALL

Kate McDonnell has captivated audiences all over the world with her award-winning song writing, her unusual, deft guitar style, her jaw-dropping voice and infectious personality.  She hails from a family of musicians spanning many generations and, as a precocious four year old, she picked up her mother’s guitar, taller than she was and strung for right handed players, and started to teach herself how to play: upside down and backwards!
Armed with her unusual guitar style and crystalline soprano voice, Kate set out on a career in music: firstly with her twin sister and then partnering guitarist, Freddie Tane (once of Bill Haley and the Comets) releasing two albums and opening shows for major artists such as Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Suzanne Vega and Judy Collins. Kate the went solo and started writing her own songs, winning several awards and releasing 4 successful solo albums which received significant acclaim and international airplay - leading to an appearance at the prestigious Newport Folk Festival. Her 2024 album, Trapeze, took her to #3 spot in radio airplay charts and #1 artist in the USA and top ten 2024 album in the Euro Americana charts. This is a rare opportunity to see her up close and personal. For this appearance, Kate will be supported by local musicians, Andrew Turner and Lucy Speller, former members of the well loved local band, Spinning Jelly, and Flag Crackers Border Morris.
